Video-calling apps have become more important than ever during the Coronavirus outbreak.
With many countries all over the world in lockdown and social distancing measures in place, staying connected with friends and family is only really possible via Zoom, FaceTime, Houseparty and other video calling apps.
When these apps work, it’s a fantastic way to be able to stay in touch, however, as with many services, video-conferencing applications can encounter issues from time to time.
So, let’s take a look at what’s going on with the Zoom app today – is it down?
Is Zoom down right now?
Yes, as of 8:50 am on Sunday, May 17th 2020, Zoom users reported that the Zoom service was down via DownDetector.
The Zoom app is usually very reliable with tonnes of people using it every day for everything from work meetings to the weekly family quiz.
However, at the time of writing, Zoom is still down on May 17th.
Zoom issues today: Has the app crashed?
Yes, by the looks of things, the Zoom app has crashed.
The reason for the Zoom app crashing, according to The Independent, is due to many people using the app to hold Sunday church services online.
Users of the app encountered audio and video issues while some even experienced problems logging in.
With any new device we buy nowadays, we can almost guarantee that it comes with a built-in camera, but they don’t always provide the best picture.

When will Zoom be fixed?
As of 3:30 pm GMT on May 17th 2020, Zoom took to Twitter to acknowledge the issue writing: “Our team is investigating the root cause of issues joining Zoom Meetings. These issues appear to be limited to a subset of users.”
However, there’s no word on when exactly Zoom will be fixed. We can be sure that Zoom will announce when the app is fixed and ready to use again as soon as possible.
You can follow Zoom on Twitter @Zoom_us. They also advise visiting the Zoom Status website (accessible here) to be as up-to-date as possible with the outage. According to the status site, the Zoom team “is continuing to investigate this issue”.
When Zoom is up and running again, be sure to use the latest version available for your video conferencing – Zoom 5.0.
