One of the major benefits of opting for a TV subscription service such as Sky TV is the fact that there is a tonne of on-demand content ready to watch at the click of a button. As well as that, Sky Cinema gives us an array of movies to feast on.

But, as with a fair deal of techy things, even the humble Sky box can encounter the odd hitch. If your Sky box is not downloading the films you want to watch then you more than likely want to get this issue sorted as soon as possible.

There’s nothing more frustrating than getting home after a long day and wanting to watch some of the great films you have access to and not being able to.

Sometimes Sky won’t allow the user access to download a film, other times the box is downloading movies but then it doesn’t allow viewers to play the recording.

Why is my Sky box not downloading films?

There could be a number of reasons why your Sky box has glitched and is not responding to your request to download the films you want.

Your download queue could be the cause of the problem. If an error has occurred with one of the items in the queue then it could cause a block for the rest of the content you’re trying to download.

More than likely, this will be a glitch that is easily fixable with a reboot.

However, before taking a look at the download queue, the downloading issue could be to do with a software issue. Try downloading another film and if that downloads and plays then you know the issue is just a one-off and potentially an issue on Sky’s end.

Sky box not downloading films: How to fix this issue

If you experience the downloading issue with any film you select, then take a look at the download queue to see if anything you were trying to download has an error which could be clogging up the list.

You can check this under “Home“, “Recordings“, “Manage” and “Downloads“. If there is an item there which has encountered an error (such as a failed recording), you can simply select it and remove it, this should now free up the queue.

If you’re unable to download or record any shows then this could be to do with a connectivity issue.

To reboot your broadband router simply turn everything off at the wall, remove the plug from the wall and leave it for five minutes before plugging everything back in. If you’re still having no luck, follow the same for your Sky box and this should solve the issue.

Is your Sky box receiving satellite signal?

Another issue that many Sky customers experience with their box is that it’s not receiving satellite signal.

If a message appears on your screen that the system isn’t receiving satellite signal this could be due to a number of things. A loose connection to the box, a problem with the signal strength, incorrect settings or a lack of memory in the recorder can all be to blame.

First of all, with everything turned off, check that all the cables in the back of the box and television are securely connected. Now, switch the TV and the box back on at the wall, then press and hold the standby button, wait five minutes and turn it back on.

This reboot should get things connected again, but if this hasn’t solved the problem you can speak to one of our team today on our freephone number 0800 433 7963.
