Who is Kelci Saffery?
Kelci ‘Saff’ Saffery is a former zookeeper who worked at Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma.
Saff was unfortunate enough to have his arm mauled by a tiger in 2013.
At the time, Saff was 27 years old, making him 34 in 2020.
Saff released a statement following the incident which stated that the zoo wasn’t responsible for his injury. He returned to work within a week of the life-changing accident.
Can we talk about the real hero in all of this? The animal keeper who returned to work just 7 days after their injury and amputation. So not to stay longer in the hospital, and cause a media frenzy. To protect the beloved tigers. #tigerking #saff pic.twitter.com/qnDzSspqkY

During episode 8 of Tiger King, host Joel McHale said: “Saff, you identify as a man, were you upset when they kept referring to you as ‘she’ on the show?”
Saff replied: “I don’t think it bothered me as much as it bothered everyone else.”
Tiger King: Saff now
Many people who watched Tiger King wondered where the staff are today, naturally.
Thankfully, April 12th 2020 saw the final follow-up episode of Tiger King air – ‘Tiger King and I’.
Joel McHale spoke with eight of the main people involved in the Tiger King documentary in this aftershow episode.
Speaking to former animal keeper Saff, he asked: “Has your life changed at all since its release?”
Saff replied: “It has in a sense of I don’t have any anonymity, I have been recognised in public places, which is new to me.”
