Facebook Portal devices come with Amazon Alexa built-in so that you can use your device by issuing voice commands.  Alexa works in the same way on Facebook Portal as it does on other devices. You can listen to the news, get weather reports, play music, or set timers with Alexa. Alexa on Facebook Portal can also control other smart devices in your home. Just like with other Alexa devices, saying “Alexa”, will wake Alexa up to start listening to your commands.

Currently, Facebook Portal has two voice assistants. Alexa is one of them, and the other is “Hey Portal.” “Hey Portal” is used to control things on your device like time, video control, calling, or camera effects. For all other things, you can use Alexa.

How to Enable Alexa on your Facebook Portal

To use Alexa on Facebook Portal, you will first need to connect to Alexa following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings on your device
  2. From there, tap on Accounts
  3. Next, select the option that says, “Amazon Alexa”.
  4. Now enter your Amazon account details to log in and connect to Alexa.

Now that you’ve enabled Alexa on your device, you can give Alexa commands to control your other smart home devices, play music, or give you the news. For local device tasks like calling, time, or brightness control, you will need to use Portal’s local voice assistant.
