Here’s a look at BritBox’s original shows: the video subscription service has new releases for 2020.
Original shows on platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime have been some of the most popular. From The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel to The Man In The High Castle, Orange Is the New Black to Stranger Things, there are many original shows that are loved the world over.
Now, it looks like BritBox is joining the ranks of producing original content in 2020. Britbox was created by the BBC and ITV and launched in the UK in November 2019.
The streaming service has accumulated subscribers from all over the world, many of which want to know more about BritBox’s original shows.
BritBox original shows
Wednesday 22nd July 2020 saw BritBox confirm that its set to release four original shows.
The four original commissions are:
- A Spy Among Friends: A six-episode series based on the best-selling book by Ben Macintyre.
- The Beast Must Die: As reported by ITV, revenge thriller The Beast Must Die is “based on the novel by Nicholas Blake and tells the story of a grieving mother who infiltrates the life of the man she believes killed her son.“
- Crime: Trainspotting writer Irvine Welsh adapts his novel, Crime, into his first TV drama.
- Magpie Murders: This TV series is adapted from the bestselling book of the same name written by Anthony Horowitz OBE. As reported by ITV, Anthony Horowitz said: “Magpie Murders is my most successful novel and it wasn’t easy to adapt. But I think the result is a completely original drama that will delight and beguile audiences in equal measure.“
There’s currently no official date for the release of the four new series coming to BritBox, however, once announced, we will keep you updated here.
Is BritBox free with Amazon Prime?
No, unfortunately, BritBox isn’t free with Amazon Prime. However, Amazon Prime subscribers can purchase a BritBox subscription through the app. Apple TV users can also sign up for BritBox which logged into their account.
A BritBox subscription costs £5.99 per month and for anyone new to the service, the first month comes free.
Differing from other streaming apps such as Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video, BritBox offers purely British TV. There’s’ also no contract involve and a subscription can be cancelled any time.
How to get BritBox on a Smart TV
Most Smart TVs will have an app store or an app download function. In the same way that you would install Netflix or Disney+ on your Smart TV, BritBox can be installed in the same manner.
If using a Samsung Smart TV from 2016 onwards, head to Smart Hub > Apps > Search for BritBox.
BritBox is also available for download on an Apple TV (4th generation onwards) or a Firestick.
According to BritBox: “Panasonic, LG, Vestel and Netgem Smart TVs, iOS, Android devices, Amazon Fire TV, YouView Retail, BT, and Talk Talk set-top boxes and YouView Sony 2020 TVs” all support the app, too.
