The first iPhone was released on 29 June 2007. Since then, Apple has released new updated versions year after year.
iPhone has taken up almost half of the mobile market share in the UK between 2010 and 2019.
Furthermore, these phones have given millions the ability to make video calls, send photos and play mobile games.
The iPhone XR is the twelfth in its generation and sometimes has connection issues. PDP authentication failure is an error message the iPhone XR experiences as a result.
It seems like this error occurs when inserting a new SIM card, so let’s take a look at how to resolve this issue.
Why is it called iPhone XR?
Firstly, it is understood that Peter Schill (Senior VP of worldwide marketing at Apple) stated that he loves sports cars.
Those cars that are extra special get denoted with an “S” or “R” hence the XS and XR iPhone models.
Opposing to that, the letters have also been said to not mean anything at all.
We know the X stands for ’10’ as a Roman numeral and Apple prides themselves on hidden details, which makes it even more interesting to wonder what the letters really stand for.
“PDP authentication failure” – iPhone XR not connecting to the internet
By the looks of things, the PDP authentication failure error occurs when you have trouble connecting to the internet. Follow these steps to fix this error:
- Put the iPhone into Airplane Mode for a few seconds.
- Remove the SIM card from your iPhone.
- Turn on the iPhone and go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your phone to reset the network setting on the iPhone.
- Turn off your iPhone.
- Switch the phone back on and insert the SIM card into the iPhone.
If you are still receiving the error message, please contact your mobile service provider as there may be an issue with your SIM card.

How long will iPhone XR be supported?
The length of time that the iPhone XR will be supported for all comes down to the model being able to run up-to-date iOS updates.
As the CPU performance of new models increases, the updates of older models will be affected negatively.
It is suggested that the XR should be capable of handling iOS updates up to iOS 17.
Its could mean that the XR range should be supported for at least the next five years.
This is all dependant on Apple’s future iPhone sales. If sales were to diminish, the iPhone XR could be discontinued in a few years time.
iPhone, as always, will continue to bring out new models. As a major tech company, they need to continue to impress customers with emerging phone specs and designs.
