It’s safe to say, we all find great pleasure in watching our favourite films on tablets or playing games on our mobile phones.

More importantly, an essential element while watching those films or playing those games is the audio that comes with them. Because of this, it can be extremely frustrating if your Chromecast sound keeps cutting out.

Why can’t Google home find my Chromecast?
Firstly, always ensure your device can use and is compatible with Google Cast technology.
- Some Smart TVs don’t operate on Andriod or don’t have Chromecast built-in
- Roku, Amazon FireTV or Apple TV products are not compatible with Chromecast
- Sonos audio is not compatible
- Make sure your Cast firmware is updated to 1.21+ if you are using TVs with built-in Chromecast
Lastly, check that the Chromecast is connected to the same network as your other devices and Google Home for it to work properly.
Chromecast sound keeps cutting out: How to stop it from happening
If your sound is cutting out the following steps may resolve the problem:
- Plug in other devices to your television like a set-top box or games console to check the problem doesn’t sit with the TV
- Insert the Chromecast into a different HDMI slot on the TV and check if this corrects the sounds after a while
- Plug the Chromecast power cable into the device and to ensure you are receiving enough power
- Log in to the Google Home app on your phone or tablet and check that the volume is turned up in the app
- Carry out a factory reset by selecting the Chromecast device in the Google Home app and finding the three dots in the top right-hand corner, then select ‘Factory Reset’ > ‘Factory Reset’.
- To factory reset a newer Chromecast (second-generation onwards) please follow these steps: With the Chromecast plugged into the TV > hold down Chromecast side button > LED should now start blinking orange > LED light turns white > release button.
The above steps should resolve the problem, if not, you may need to look at replacing your device. With any luck, your device will still be under warranty, so you won’t have to fork out more money.

Why does Netflix keep losing sound?
One of the most popular apps people use to stream film and video is Netflix.
Chromecast is used to project the app from a smaller device like a tablet or mobile phone to a TV or other larger device.
The Google Home app likes to use stereo sounds and this could be affecting your sound from Netflix.
To stop Netflix from losing sound try the following:
Locate the subtitles menu > Change the audio setting to “stereo”
This should improve the sound quality for better listening as a result.
