Finding your YouView box stuck in maintenance mode is never really something that BT customers are after.
It’s a very common issue among BT’s YouView customers with many often left with no solution.
We understand that waiting on hold for hours isn’t suitable when all you want to do is get your TV up and running again.
While a quick ‘turn off and on again’ solves most problems, with this particular issue, you may even have to resort to resetting the box to factory settings.
This glitch throws a real spanner into the works, so let’s take a look at some solutions to get your BT YouView box out of maintenance mode.
Why does the YouView BT box get stuck in maintenance mode?
If you’ve attempted to turn on your BT YouView box to find that it’s sitting in maintenance mode then it can be quite worrying. But there’s no need to fret as it’s a common issue which is easily sorted.
Getting stuck in maintenance mode can happen at random intervals. It doesn’t seem that there is any particular reason for the box getting stuck in this mode.
Quite simply, the cause is due to a glitch. When you turn your box off, sometimes software updates are sent to the box from BT. The box should usually sort itself out without you noticing but sometimes it gets stuck in maintenance mode.
If you have your YouView box manual to hand there are some instructions available there to get out of maintenance mode.
What is the easiest way to fix this problem?
You can try the novel solution of turning the box on and off and if that does work, it’s the easiest fix possible.
If that doesn’t work then it’s worth trying a factory reset, to do that, navigate to the main menu and find settings.
Select “Information and Reset” then select “Factory reset” and ignore the warning screen.
Once the reset has completed you should be able to set up your box like you did when it was new.
BT YouView box still stuck in maintenance mode? Try this instead
If your box is low on storage then it could be glitching out and getting stuck, we recommend deleting some recordings to see if this solves the issue.
If you’re still stuck in maintenance mode, try the following:
- Turn the power on using the switch found on the back of your box.
- A red light should appear on the front of the box.
- Press and hold the down arrow button on the top of the box for five seconds until you see the “Enter Maintenance Mode Y/N” prompt.
- The box light will turn blue and you should now exit maintenance mode with things working as normal.
