Freeview Play builds upon the original Freeview service.

With Freeview Play, you can have on-demand, live TV channels and catch-up TV all in one place.

The service offers over 20,000 hours of TV on-demand, plus you can top up with subscription streaming services.

Many LG TVs come with Freeview pre-installed, however, some models (webOS 3.0 onwards) of LG TV can upgrade to Freeview Play through a software update. To check your TV’s software, please follow the steps below.

Both Youview and Freeview play are now widely available on a variety of TVs. So, when it comes to choosing between the two, it can be a little difficult.

Free-to-air service Freeview Play may seem familiar if you’ve previously heard of YouView. But there are a some differences between the two.

If you opt for a digibox, Freeview boxes generally allow for more storage space, meaning that you can save more TV shows.

Both TV services offer BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, My5 and UKTV Play as well as Netflix. YouView also supports the Now TV and Sky Cinema apps while Freeview Play can support the Amazon Video and BBC Sport apps.

If you’re looking to get Freeview Play added to your TV system, an Amazon Firestick is a great alternative to a set-top box.

The Freeview app is not available to download directly from the Amazon App Store, however, it is possible to still get the app by following the steps below.

  • Navigate to the Firestick settings.
  • Find My Fire TV/Devices > Developer > enable ADB Debugging and Apps from Unknown Sources.
  • Go back to the Firestick home page. Click in the search bar and type ‘Downloader‘.
  • Click ‘Get‘ on the Downloader app. Then ‘Open‘.
  • Now, go to the settings of the Downloader app. Enable JavaScript and click ‘Yes‘ when a pop-up appears.
  • On the Downloader app home screen again, type in the following URL “https://bit.ly/2lxGLSV” and click on ‘Go’.
  • The app will start downloading. Click ‘Install‘ to complete installation.
  • When the app has downloaded and installed, click. ‘Open‘.
