Discord is an incredible platform for communication. It is aimed at gamers, however, it can be used by anyone looking for a great communication app.
It works similarly to Slack and provides features such as video and voice calling. Moreover, there are options to share your screen and talk while playing games.
Discord is also very popular among the content creator community as many use it to communicate with their followers.
Features such as push-to-talk are commonly used on Discord. However, if you cannot set the key binds on your macOS Catalina machine, then this can pose a problem.
Discord key binds not working: Mac Catalina
The privacy and security levels of macOS have been increasing year on year. Apple has taken a lot of steps to maintain a private environment for its users. In its latest update of macOS, known as Catalina, Apple has added a bunch of privacy options. But, in doing this, they have restricted access for third-party applications such as Discord.
Therefore, sometimes the applications do not work as planned as they can’t get access to required devices such as your system’s microphone or storage.
This is often a reason why user cannot set up key binds on Discord on macOS Catalina. However, there is always a way to grant the applications the permissions they need.
How to fix Discord key binds problem on macOS
MacOS Catalina sometimes restricts the Discord application the access it need to work properly.
In this case, we need to allow Discord to be able to monitor our keyboard to record the desired key binds.
To do so, open your settings and go to “Security & Privacy”.
In this menu, look for the tab for “Privacy” and open it.
Then, navigate to the option for accessibility and find “Discord” in the list. Now, make sure that the tick box is checked against Discord.
If you are on an older macOS version, the option for Discord might not be in the accessibility page. In this case, go to the “Input Monitoring” page in the privacy tab to find the option.
Discord doesn’t recognize the microphone
If you are having problems with your microphone when using Discord, then there are several things to try.
First of all, make sure that you have granted permission to Discord for accessing your microphone.
To do that, go to the “Security & Privacy” page in your systems preferences.
Next, go to the “Privacy” tab and select “Microphone”. On this page, make sure that the tick-box against Discord is checked.
If the issue persists, check if Discord is using the correct input device as a microphone. This can be an issue if you are using headphones with your Mac.
To check this, open the Discord app and in the settings, go to “Voice & Video”. On this page, make sure that the input device is correctly selected, and the input volume is not set to zero.
